Athena and the Easter bunny

Enjoying the early bird songs Athena sat perched on the window sill of the little boy’s room. When down in the yard a rabbit appeared.
Without deviation the rabbit hopped through the grass and disappeared into the house.
Curious Athena turned, flew over to the door and went outside, downstairs, to see what the unusual visitor was doing.

In the livingroom, at the couch, there it was. Gently hopping along, inspecting the space betweencouch and floor.
Hooting her Hello Athena swooped down and perched on the couch just above the visitor.
“Hello.” The rabbit returned, pulling out an intricately painted egg from under its fur, gently rolling it under the couch, all the while Athena looked on in curious amazement. “What are you doing there?”

“Hiding eggs with presents, I’m the easter bunny.” The rabbit replied, amazed at Athena’s ignorance. Still the rabbit produced another egg and rolled in her general direction.

“Happy Easter, Athena!” The rabbit smiled hopping away again, out the door.

After a few moments the artful egg began twitching, rocking back and forth, and bounced around until its shell broke and was flung away in arches revealing a tiny hatchling snowy owl, called Lilly.

Athena and Fritz

Huddled together around a dim flashlight Athena, Otto Ferdinand and Teddy looked around the dark bedroom.
They were waiting for the little boy to go to sleep, but he was out with Mommy and Daddy.
Outside the moon shone through the clouds, shadows danced on the bedroom wall. Tighter and tighter the three cuddled together.
Afraid of the nightly sounds of Halloween the drew the blanket over their heads when a flapping noise startled them from above.
Shaking in fear Athena peeked out of the covers, but saw only the dark bedroom. “He-hello?”
Upside down a face pushed down to her, white fangs pertruding from the mouth. “Hi!”
Hooting in shock Athena rushed back under the blanket, the black face followed with curious eyes. “Hello, I’m Fritz the Bat!” The friendly newcomer grinned into the dimly lit blanket fort.
One by one Athena, Otto and Teddy introduced themselves, and were rejoined with a happy little boy as he greeted Fritz with a welcoming embrace later when he came to bed.

Athena & Odin

A cold and stormy winter night had fallen onto the forest where Athena the barn owl lives. She wanted to get to town, the little boy could hardly fall asleep without her cuddling him.
But snowfall was dense, she could not see where to go! The roads and sidewalks were covered under a thick blanket of snow as well. Her friends Teddy the bear and Otto Ferdinand the frog, were fast asleep in their cosy beds.
Desperate she flew around the edge of the forest, how could she get to the little boy? A hoot, much like her own, startled her. “He-hello?” She hooted back.
“Hello.” Barely visible against the snow a white owl perched on a branch not far. Curious she sat down next to him. “I’m Athena, the barn owl. I need to find my way to the little boy, he can’t sleep without me by his side!”
“I’m Odin, the snow owl. I can show you the way, in this weather I can find it easily.” He hooted with a smile in his eyes.
Athena flew right behind him, through gusts of wind, filled with flakes of snow. Over hilltops, streets and cops of trees, covered thickly with snow. She had to keep her eyes on Odin’s darker feathers, or else she might have lost him white against white.
“Here!” He hooted at a windowsill, eagerly small hands reached out. “We have arrived.”
Both he and Athena were grabbed, and held tightly against a tiny chest, with care and love until there was nothing but a night’s well deserved rest.

Athena, Otto & Teddy in the meadow (Bedtimestory)

Muffled came the sounds to the ears of Athena and Otto and Teddy. They were safely tucked away in the bag, because the little boy was visiting his grandmother, who lived near the Danube meadows.

Once the sounds of the car had long been gone the three dared to leave the bag. Outside the day was low, twilight replaced the daytime, and soon night would be upon them. Not much of time for the little owl Athena to greet the local owls, some distant relatives of hers, and for Otto Ferdinand von Hinkelbein the noble little frog, to meet the local frogs, also cousins of his. The hooting in the distant thick forests, and the croaking in the mist meadows and ponds was luring them away.

Sad and lonely Teddy sat at the doorstep gazing out after them.

There were no bears.
No relatives to visit.
He felt alone and deserted, when all of sudden a tiny hand reached for him!

PRessed against the little boy Teddy felt no loneliness anymore. Both were fast asleep when Athena and Otto returned from their relatives.

Athena, Otto & Teddy (Bedtimestory)

Once upon a stormy night Athena, the little owl, wanted to go to town, so the little boy could cuddle with her and fall asleep while she watched over his sleep, preying on bad dreams.

But the storm blew her away!

When she perched upon a root to rest and get her bearings, she heard a Frog’s croak.
“Hello?” she hooted.
“Hello there!” a tiny frog hopped into sight. His name was Otto Ferdinand von Hinkelbein, a noble little frog. “You seem lost.” he tilted his head.
“I am!” Athena raised her wings in dispair. “I need to get to town, the little oy needs me! Without me watching over his sleep, and without cuddling me, he can’t sleep well.” she hung her head, a tear of dispair dropped from her beak after running from her eye.
“I can show you the way to town.” Otto Ferdinand croaked with a broad smile. “If you take me to the boy with you, he might need my help too in a storm like this!”
For a moment Athan pondered, and nodded, smiling too.

So Otto Ferdinand hopped on, Athena hopped behind him, flying only small distances to look around, maybe she’d recognize the way? But Otto had to lead her all the way to the town.
On the edge of town they met Teddy, the little old bear that once was the cuddle toy of the little boy’s father. He had waited for Athena, but when she failed to show up he went to look for her. Happy to finally having found her he led Otto Ferdinand and Athena to the little boy.

There the three climbed the crib and were greeted with open, and tired arms. Pressing the three against his chest, sleep finally found the little boy.

Athena & Teddy (Bedtimestory)

One night, Athena the Owl flew from the her forest home down to the town where the little boy lives. She knows he can’t sleep without her there to cuddle and watch over him.

But there was a dense fog covering the forest and streets of the town, so she got lost!

Until she came to a crossroads following the lights on the street. She took a turn left after perching on a streetlight for a moment. But that road came to a dead end. and that is not where the boy lives. So she turned back and took the way straight from where she had originally come.

After some time she realized she had come to town square. That wasn’t where the boy lives either. So, after flying back, she used the las road in the crossroads and came to the house where the little boy lives. An old small bear sat at the door. “Why are you out here little bear?” Athena asked.
“I’m Teddy and I used to come here, but the boy I came to visit, cuddle and watch over has all grown up now. He has a baby now.” his sad voice was made sadder by his frown.
“I come here for that baby to cuddle me and to watch over him!” Athena exclaimed! “Come with me, and we can both attend the little boy, I’m sure if his father sees you, he will be glad too.”

So the little owl and the little old bear went inside to the bed of the little boy. Quickly Athena climbed into the bed and cuddled against the small boy, who embraced her eagerly. With a tired, but still curious and loving gaze he reached for Teddy, who too got to cuddle with him.

Sleep tight you folks.

Generations (Baby)

After todays rather unfunny blurb, let me bring you a meeting of generations.

The one on the left is my son’s favorite cuddle toy, “Athene” (Athena in english) and the one on the right was my favorite back in the day, “Nagel Teddy”. (Named after the woman that gave it to me: Mrs. Nagel, a friend of my mom)

🙂

Generations

When I got him his brown fur was very dark, his belly was bright white, his nose was straight…and Athene has been through some changes too already.
