Friendly Neighborhood Character Assassin

I am a white, heterosexual male.

Sidenote: I refuse to use the term “cis gender”, because it is the norm. You wouldn’t call a non handicapped person a “cis capped” person, would you?

As a kid I watched Princess Fantaghiro.

Who, surprise, surprise, is a girl/woman, who is the hero, who saves the kingdom, who saves her prince. She was tutores and guided by the white sorceress, who also posed as the white knight (the actress even was glued on a beard to make it obvious for the watcher) while teaching our heroine to fight with a sword.

As a teen I was drawn in by Deep Space Nine (DS9 for short), where the main protagonist was a black man, Commander, later Captain, Benjamin Sisko.

I also was watching (and am a huge fan of) Voyager, with Captain Catherine Janeway.

I loved the Alien movies, where the main protagonist was, as you hopefully know, a woman, Ellen Ripley.

Of course, there too 0 was classic Trek, TNG, Star Wars, Babylon 5, X-Files, MacGyver and other stuff with white male protagonists and rolemodels.

But I wanted to draw attention to the aforementioned series and movies, because they feature women and a PoC, and that I fully engaged with and idolized, ALTHOUGH I am a white, heterosexual male.

Why?

Because they did diversity right.

They didn’t set out with the goal of creating a BLACK captain, a WOMAN hero.

They set out with the most important of goals for these characters – make good characters, who happen to be [insert gender/ethnicity here].

While today’s “progressive” characters are focusing on the wrong aspect. When I see Ghostbusters 2016, new Star Wars, Discovery I get this vibe:

QUOTE

The BLACK HEROIC WOMAN protagonist steps into the sun and looks good while sweating

END QUOTE

While a good introduction to the same character would be:

QUOTE

The protagonist steps out into the sun, the sweat beads on her forehead look like diamonds on black velvet against her dark skin.

END QUOTE

That, coincidentally, is part of why I hate pride days/weeks/months/events. You’re proud of, and concentrating on, aspects people have no control over. It’s equal to “I’m proud to be balding!”

You are reducing people (or yourselves) to things that, if you were reduced to them by whitey, it would be sexist, racist, trans-, or homophobic. (Or hateful towards the pholically challenged, if you reduce me to my balding.)

Who’s the real bigot here?

So. How to write a great FEMALE character? A great BLACK character? A great TRANS character?

Write a great character. Period.

A great character who HAPPENS TO BE black, female, transgender, gay, or even bald (Michael Garibaldi, anyone?).

Do not focus on the “minority” aspect, but what makes yoir character great.

Note: If you write, for example, about a black woman overcoming adversity in the 1950s, disregard everything I said.

Also note: read the Expanse, or watch it, or Caprica. Being gay, or in a multi-person spanning relationship, is being treated as normal as “traditional” relationships, or heterosexuality. THAT is the right way.

Rancid site

My finger hovers over the blue square with the rounded corners and the white lower case f in it. A red dot is superimposed onto the top right corner of it, a white number in it.

Facebook. Notifications.

I find myself hesitant to open the app.
Reluctant to.
Sure there are friends of mine, friends half the world away, friends I made through Facebook. People I care for and would miss if I were to leave the site.

But there is also all the murk.
The garbage rabid people on the left and the right, the uneducated with their battlecries to educate oneself. All the wasted hours trying to beat (metaphorically) some sense into people, people who do not understand basic human conduct, basic science, basic logic, or anything else that a toddler learns, right after pooping into a potty.
The anti science brigades with their shit flinging antivaxxers, noGMOers, AntiNuclears and other subcreatures living on a flat earth. The lobotomized hordes of migrant hating nationalists, and their immense library of bullshit, as well as their equally radical counterparts, who believe violence and wanton destruction is justified in the name of fighting ‘oppression’.

All the data collecting sites and hidden apps, aggregating every detail of your oh so willingly and openly shared private information and life. All the fraudulent advertisements that are strewn into the newsfeeds, as if they were genuine posts by your friends/acquaintances, just to misguide you.

At times I have come to believe, that lower case f stands for ‘fuck you’.
Uttered with such a cold distance and in a lack of compassion and humanity, that it doesn’t even deserve capitalisation.

fuck you

My finger moves away.
I don’t want to open this.
I don’t have enough curiosity to see what those notifications are about.
I have better things to do.
Maybe later.
Maybe never.

Take care,

Insane

At what point can we all agree that these people are fucking insane?

https://news.sky.com/story/man-69-who-identifies-as-20-years-younger-begins-legal-battle-to-change-age-11547764

I can understand homosexuals and their fight for equality.
I can, kinda, get behind trans gender, I even am willing to concede to a third gender.

But this?

Like those reality allergic cretins who believe they are not humans but something else (otherkin), there are the morons who believe in sixty genders (genderkin), and now there are idiots who think they are twenty years younger than they are (agekin?).

No, it isn’t ageism if we prohibit this change of birthdate in official documents. If we keep him from frauding potential mates or employers.

It is correct.

How would you feel, if your spouse was actually twenty years older than they are, thus, will die a lot sooner than you expect?
How would you think an employer would like it that an employee just dies?

He is seventy, not fifty.

With seventy he won’t be able to get those young broads he could get with fifty. (Unless of course he has a few million on the bank, then he night find the love of his life in a twenty year old blonde with big tits. And she’s going to spread her legs for him whenever he wants. Because she’s a whore.) The women don’t have to change.
He has to. He is the ageist. Not the rest of the world.

There were elections…

I don’t care who won, I’m writing this on Tuesday anyway.

¶ Here’s the thing, if you need Google to tell you to vote, do us all a favor, and don’t vote.

¶ If you’re one of the morons who parade about with a “I voted” sticker (or digital equivalent), you probably masturbate in public too, don’t you? You did what you’re supposed to do as an adult, there’s no cookie for that. The non-voters don’t give a fuck anyway, the others who voted, did the adult thing too, so all you’re doing is jerking off your ego.

Spank me tin lady!

With all the advancements in computer science, engineering, AI, deep learning and robotics, all we humans are asking is “Can I fuck it?”.

Interesting.

Anyway. Gizmodo [insert disgruntled sigh here] had punished the article linked here.

Do BDSM Sexbots violate Asimov’s first law of robotics?

Simple answer, no. In a normal consenting setting no real/lasting harm comes to the participants.

The already practiced use of a safeword puts further power into the hands of the sub. A properly programmed AI in such a bot would also pose less risk of disregarding the safeword, like a human might.

More complicated answers, answers from people who do not understand the laws of robotics (or BDSM for that matter) can be found in the article.

The laws of robotics were drafted and worded by Asimov in such a way that they explicitly allow for loopholes, for contradictions. He explores this in numerous of his stories. The question here shouldn’t be whether BDSM Sexbots violate Asimov’s first law of robotics, but WHY ARE WE STILL USING ASIMOV’S LAWS OF ROBOTICS???

They’re flawed. They don’t need a rework, they need a full out replacement. Allowing for exceptions to certain rules/laws, closing of the old loopholes.

•Are Sexbots unethical? No.

•Are BDSM Sexbots unethical? No.

•Does the creation/existence of Sexbots objectify women? No.

•Do Sexbots cause harm? Not that I could think of. (Of course there are mentally unstable individuals out there who might take it too far, but they would take it too far with a mannequin made out of milkcartons and Play-Doh.)

•Do BDSM Sexbots cause harm? No. (See above)

So. Now that we have settled that question, can we please think of other ways to use this technology other than to fuck? Care of the sick/elderly/crippled. Construction (cylon style). Security (with certain rules imprinted on them). Space travel/exploration. Disaster relief/cleanup.

Could we use our intelligence to solve a few more pressing issues rather than whether we can build fuckable bots? Climate Change. Environment. Energy production. Pollution. Food. (Neither ditching nuclear, nor avoiding GMOs will help with those last four/five, on the fucking contrary) Water. Health. (Get vaccinated! Homeopathy isn’t real!)

Can we stop religion? EVERY RELIGION?

For the sake of the future!

Take care,

A.

A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

PS, Data!!!!

Hot water

A few short years ago Fry & Laurie might have pulled off a sketch taking place in a cafe:
Hugh (as a reporter with a hand microphone): “What do you say to the allegations that you use thermally agitated dihydrogen-monoxide in your drinks?”
Stephen (as wait staff): “No, absolutely not. It is appalling that you would even think so.”
We would’ve laughed, next segment comes on, a vox pop with Stephen in a wig “The problem today is a lack of education. It’s hot water.” more laughter, moving on.

Today, if you confront a “Barista” (a made up job, if you ask me) with the same “allegations”, they would drive on about working “chemical free” using only “organic ingredients for their beverages” blablablaaaa…

Life, it seems, has become satire…

Take from this what you like, laughter, or dead what else these morons influencers don’t know about the world. Something in between.

However.
