The case in favour of TV/Radio license fees

Since I’m a strong believer of freespeech and free press and all that jazz, I have to tackle this.

Commercial channels are subject to market forces. It is this circumstance that makes factually wrong, and potentially dangerous, opinions wide spread. Because they bring views, which pleases the advertisers, which brings money.
So they bring f.e. antivaxx Bullshit, invite to “discussions” with proponents of said BS and endanger pubic health.
Freedom of speech? Sure.
Factually wrong? Sure.
Dangerous? Also sure. (In this example)

But those commercial channels are subject to market forces. Remember? If their biggest advertiser(s) don’t want certain topics, they won’t bring them. Freespeech? Nope!
“Advertiser friendly” spech? Hell yeah.

I hear you saying “why don’t they finance the pubic channels through a tax, giving them a budget?”
Well. First, budgets are appointed annually. Not much planning ahead if you don’t know next year’s budget.
Second. Who appoints that budget? The government.
Depending on your political inclination, that might be a good thing. For now. Governments change (in democratic countries at least). Next term there might be the polar opposite in charge. The news could/would change dramatically.
No more refugees welcome, now it’s only the evil foreigners. Or vice versa.
No more climate change, more everything is peachy. Or vice versa.
With a license fee model, the public channels remain (relatively) free of such political influence.

In addition. The finance model through the fee allows the public channels to produce/show programmes that would otherwise be neglected or outright not made at all, because they aren’t selling.

Sure. Public channels are run by boards, by humans, with their own political inclinations, their own affiliations and agendas. Are fee financed channels truly objective? No. No one is.
But they’re independent of the ruling party/parties. They’re independent of market forces.
Is there room for improvement? Sure. But to abolish the fee would end a vital pillar of free speech, a vital pillar of independent and objective journalism.

So. You morons on the left, you shitheads on the right, do not infringe on our rights, on our freedom. Hands off the fee.

Take care

Addendum.

This was written way ahead of my country’s turmoil over abolishing that fee. Thus threatening to plunge us into a darker age. Now, more than ever, we must fight to protect freedom (of speech) and independent journalism.

Listen Zodiacs.

Every day, in the morning hours my town’s local radio station is devoting some 5 to 10 minutes an hour to reading vague “Horoscopes”. Then you’ll hear some dog shit like “Leo: today you excell at interpersonal realations, but beware money decisions.”

Who in the fraking world is this for?

What kind of empty existence, deprived of reasons for continuing life, sits in front of their radio (or car, or office) and listens to some (stolen phrase ahead) assoholic bitch tell them something that may apply to them?
Even if Horoscopes were real (which they’re not), a generalisation of an entire zodiac sign is like saying “White people, today you will be racist, but your white spouse will be in the mood.”. If that wasn’t hurtful enough try this analogy: “Blacks, stay away from cops, but watermelon is abundant today!”
What the fuck? It’s thinly veiled ‘racism’ based on zodiac signs. Zodiacism.

But we live in the 21st century. Zodiacs are bullshit. Horoscopes are bullshit. We have sent people men (let’s face the truth here, mkay?) to the moon, have established a permanent space station in orbit, discovered the building blocks of MATTER, and still people read/listen to/make Horoscopes???
I don’t get it.

Devote 5 to 10 minutes an hour to SCIENCE news. Not fairytale bullshit that is en parr with religiotic tales.

Stop bullshitting yourselves and others. Grow up and take responsibility for your lives, you can’t just lay back and say ‘horoscope said it’d be a failure day’, or wait for fortune to drop in your lap while doing nothing to get it.

Popsong recuts (Part I)

There is a real need out there for a youtube channel which does nothing but recuts of pop songs.

Why?
Because thez’re fraking atrocious crap.

For example, Bruno Mars’ “Lazy Song”, should be recut.

I starts with that obnoxious drum shit, then the guitar replaces that noise, and Bruno Mars yelps out “Today I don’t feel like doing anything!” then the guitar stops, and all you hear is footsteps walking away, followed by someone dropping himself on a couch or bed.
END.

He said he doesn’t feel like dpoing anything! End of story. Seven-eight seonds, that is tolerable with this banshee like noise he calls a singing voice. Instead of polluting the airwaves with a few minutes worth of death screams by a slaughtered pig.

Or that earcancer causing shit “Fairytale gone bad” by sunrise avenue. It starts with the hihat and basedrum, then the “singer” starts with “This is the End.” and the song actually ends, hard cut, mid tone. He stated it himself. “THIS IS THE END.” So friggin end it right there, a solid 4 second song.
Much less earcancer cases in the world.

Play these two song in the recut version back to back and you can bring another commercial, radiostations worldwide would love this shit. Why? Because they played TWO songs, wasted quarter a minute and can cut to the next commercial.

Win/Win.

On to the next segment…

Stuff (29.July 2013)

I have a videocamera, a digi cam, a large Music Library, a TV and Radio, an alarmclock, a stopwatch, a watch, a computer with Internet Connection, Browser, E-Mail, office applications, games and a ton of storage capacity, not to mention a phone and a messaging capability to send short text messages to other people.
IN MY POCKET!

I always find it astonishing if I think about it this way. Yeah, again I’m beating the virtual again here, but a cellphone is a pretty fraking amazing miracle!
And it shows so many pictures of my baby son. 😉

Yet, eventhough I have access to almost all of mankinds information with it, I wonder when I will be able to scan stuff with it? You know, a Tricorder like in Star Trek. “I won’t bord that Subway, oxygen levels in there are so low only lower lifeforms can survive in it!” 😀

Conspiracy of the seven!
Okay, it isn’t a real conspiracy, but I observed a fascinating obsession we as a society / species have with that prime number. Here it goes, Seven:
• Days in a Week
• Deadly Sins
• Seals
• th Haven
• Wonders of the (ancient) World
• Seasons to Star Trek TNG, DS9 and Voyager
• Summits
More if I stumble upon it. 😀

Insane?
Is it an option to return to the mental asylum?
No honestly people, I’m contemplating returning to Facebook, mostly for reasons of making this blog more widely known. But perhaps I’m just going to restart there with a brand new FB site…
Still pondering about this, no rushed decisions. 😉

Speaking of insanity, a relative is driving me into angry mode atm. So when I’m not busy with tending to Baby and Babyneeds, my wife, my dog, the apartment, work and a little bit myself (= writing), I’m in angry mode. I beg your fogriveness concerning my lack of activity here.
Aside of that I have prepared for the next few parts of the Whose World Series. (I know you folks don’t like it as much, but maybe you’ll grow to it in time, if not, I still publish it…) see the “Shape of Things to Come” page for details of the schedule.

Hopingyou are ahving a good time never the less.
