The case in favour of TV/Radio license fees

Since I’m a strong believer of freespeech and free press and all that jazz, I have to tackle this.

Commercial channels are subject to market forces. It is this circumstance that makes factually wrong, and potentially dangerous, opinions wide spread. Because they bring views, which pleases the advertisers, which brings money.
So they bring f.e. antivaxx Bullshit, invite to “discussions” with proponents of said BS and endanger pubic health.
Freedom of speech? Sure.
Factually wrong? Sure.
Dangerous? Also sure. (In this example)

But those commercial channels are subject to market forces. Remember? If their biggest advertiser(s) don’t want certain topics, they won’t bring them. Freespeech? Nope!
“Advertiser friendly” spech? Hell yeah.

I hear you saying “why don’t they finance the pubic channels through a tax, giving them a budget?”
Well. First, budgets are appointed annually. Not much planning ahead if you don’t know next year’s budget.
Second. Who appoints that budget? The government.
Depending on your political inclination, that might be a good thing. For now. Governments change (in democratic countries at least). Next term there might be the polar opposite in charge. The news could/would change dramatically.
No more refugees welcome, now it’s only the evil foreigners. Or vice versa.
No more climate change, more everything is peachy. Or vice versa.
With a license fee model, the public channels remain (relatively) free of such political influence.

In addition. The finance model through the fee allows the public channels to produce/show programmes that would otherwise be neglected or outright not made at all, because they aren’t selling.

Sure. Public channels are run by boards, by humans, with their own political inclinations, their own affiliations and agendas. Are fee financed channels truly objective? No. No one is.
But they’re independent of the ruling party/parties. They’re independent of market forces.
Is there room for improvement? Sure. But to abolish the fee would end a vital pillar of free speech, a vital pillar of independent and objective journalism.

So. You morons on the left, you shitheads on the right, do not infringe on our rights, on our freedom. Hands off the fee.

Take care
A.

Addendum.

This was written way ahead of my country’s turmoil over abolishing that fee. Thus threatening to plunge us into a darker age. Now, more than ever, we must fight to protect freedom (of speech) and independent journalism.

Tu Felix Austria

There’s this hospital being built in my home town of Vienna: Hospital north.

The price tag nearly doubled, it’s opening date postponed several times.

But that is not of the issue.

Recently ONE additional item about that hospital came to light with the hefty price tag of 95,000 Euro.

“What was it? An improved Heli-pad?” no my friends, nothing so simple, mundane and practical.

A FUCKING PROTECTION CIRCLE!

For 95,000 Euro a “consultant” was hired to “integrate the plot with mother natures energy flows” and “draw a protective circle” around it.

95k for woo.

If it was a private hospital catering to the rich, but delusional goop-buying crowd, I wouldn’t care. But it is a public hospital. Paid for with tax payer money. And mandatory pubic health insurance money.

WOO!

The city councillor responsible for these matters (who should be fired over this) didn’t know Jack about this, and had tasked the leader of the hospital department (who should be fired over this) to find the one responsible for this, who was then transfered (I hope that is code for “she was be fired over this).

No one, not one, of the RESPONSIBLE people actually feel responsible, and they claim to know nothing of this.

In the end one of of these neuron deficient weasels will stand there and say in an apologetic tone “I take full responsibility.”

YOU HAD IT THE WHOLE FUCKING TIME!!!

It sounds like the plot to some springtime-for-Hitler esque comedy starring Tim Allen, or an onion piece. But this is real folks.

In middle Europe.

A modern, western country.

Not some third world country that until last night was still hunting witches.

No.

AUSTRIA.

EUROPE.

What irks me the most about this is the implicitness with which all of this is reported. As if a “realignment with mother natures energy flows” and “protection against negative influences” was something that is being done with every plot, every building site. If some rich trouser stain is doing this for his estate – knock yourself out.

In that case I’d be rooting for the fraud. Take the rich fucks money! Take as much as you can carry.

But this?

PUBLIC money, for a PUBLIC hospital.

The guy who did all that (funny name, “Fasching” loosely translated “ Carnival”) was a car dealer before he turned esoteric. Why he stopped being a car dealer? His superiors pressured him too much to make a profit.

Oh. They would be so proud.

He sold a bunch of nothing and got paid massively for it.

In addition to the aforementioned bullshit he also held a seminar (or a few) for the higher-ups (who should all be fired over this) of the one-fine-day-to-be hospital.

None of them said anything or raised an alarm.

Not one said “I’m going back to doing actual work, you’re gone in five or I’ll call the cops and the press.”

95,000 Euro for absolutely nothing!

A councillor from another party stated in an interview that it is a shame that a hospital, a place of science, is involved with such woo.

I agree.

But, as a side note,

A – you are from the Christian party. Shut up.

B – there’s a homeopathic walk in clinic at Vienna’s AKH (common hospital) – paid for with, you guessed it, TAXPAYER and mandatory public health insurance money.

I am aggravated, outraged, and in the mood for murder, but: I am not surprised.

Fuck me sideways.

There are tribes yet uncontacted-by-civilisation in the Amazon who laugh at us over this! There are bush-people tripping on mushrooms (or the likes) with a more firm grip on reality.

It isn’t just a shame, this warrants a wave – a tsunami – of people getting fired (WITHOUT PAY, that is being kept to balance the 95k out!) to ensure that the idiocy is rooted out. “Cut healthy tissue close to the tumor away too doc, better safe than sorry.”

I think I will draft a letter to the city council:

As chairman of the darkmage society of austria, I demand 94,999 euro, or we will destroy the protection circle and flood the hospital grounds with negative energies, we are many, your puny trickster can not stop us.

If they resist and say how they will know that we have destroyed the protection I’ll answer how they know that it hasn’t. “We have the guarantee of the man who made it.”

“You have my guarantee against it.”

Word against word.

Insanity against insanity.

Take care,

A.

Crappy Birthday in August

Imagine the possibilities with this!

Mother-in-law, tax agents, debt collectors, Antivaxxers, white supremacists, filthy rebel scum and others who you love just as much like the aforementioned groups. Who hadn’t had paranoia before, feels watched now.
To paraphrase (and alter) the slogan the furniture store I found this gem in: Do you still dwell, or are you afraid already?

Intrusive thieves will not find the safe behind/underneath this carpet. Rather they voluntarily will leave the premise in a copcar they called themselves (plagued by horrid fears of paranoid delusions), relieved to be incarcerated, thinking they could escape the soul piercing gaze, which will follow then into every cell, every nightmare.

Crappy Birthday.

Random Rant 11.Dec 2014

In advance dear readers, I have to apologise for any harsh language in this post. I’m angry.
Sorry.

Well, I got a call from my wife.

We seem to have forgotten to pay the Dog-Tax on time, and they had sent us one of their minions to collect the tax.

Listen here you numbskulls, you send a letter with an invoice, we forget to pay.
Okay.
That’s bad behaviour on our part, but after that, you send another letter. That’s how everything in this world runs.
It’s called “a reminder”. Usually added with a late fee. Begrudingly I’d even pay that, since we are at fault here.

But you don’t show up with one your cretins on our doorstep! And let us fill out a form whether the dog owner (my wife) is married (a simple check in your database could solve that question without annoying us/her), whether we have a car (again, look up the databases at your disposal. Is there a car registered under the name? Yes? Woooow!!!! Shall I make a LATH post for you?) who pays the rent (why on earth would that concern you? It ain’t your business who is paying the rent!!!) and so on.
Just be glad I wasn’t home during the time of this questioning. I would’Ve given you these exact answers.
“Are you married?” – None of your business. Look it up.
“Do you have a car?” – None of your business. Look it up.
“Who is paying the rent?” – Absolutetly none of your business. Draw a Venn Diagramm of people likely to pay the rent and play the odds.

I despise the ground these tax/fee collecting misfits cast their shadows upon, and I hope a meteor incinerates the ground they walk on.

The real issue I have with the Dog-Tax is not that we have to pay it, but that they demand 82(!!!!) Euro, and STILL they force you to pick up dog poop.
NO!
With that amount of money I’m throwing into the dumpster here I demand you bowlmovements pick up the dog poop yourself. Remember some many decades ago? You justified the taxation of dogs with “we have to pay people who pick up the dog poop”. Good, now pick it up.

82 Euro a year, I expect people in fine suits come and pick it up, not the usual grimey workers, no, suit and tie wearing thieves who otherwise would only gather dust behind a desk and waste organs and oxygen.
Go and pick up dog poop you anal-orifices!

Again, I must ask for your forgiveness dear readers.
I just had to vent this…
